Training compensation and the solidarity mechanism (including Annexes 4 and 5)
Article 20 triggers training compensation on first professional registration and on each professional transfer until the end of the calendar year of the player's 23rd birthday (Annexe 4 details). Article 21 solidarity contribution applies when a professional is transferred before contract expiry (Annexe 5). Women's football is a special case for training compensation principles.
Key points
- Training compensation is paid to training club(s) when a player is first registered as a professional, and each time a professional is transferred until the end of the calendar year of his 23rd birthday.
- The obligation arises whether the transfer is during or at the end of the player's contract; detailed calculation rules are in Annexe 4.
- The principles of training compensation shall not apply to women's football.
- Solidarity contribution (Article 21 / Annexe 5) shares transfer compensation with clubs that trained the player when a professional moves before contract expiry.
Exam traps
- Inventing a minimum transfer-fee threshold before training compensation is due.
- Limiting training compensation to domestic transfers only.
- Claiming women's football sits entirely outside every training-rewards framework, or that training-compensation principles apply to women's football the same as men's.
